For me, every once in awhile a new game comes along and I can’t put it down. It started with Angry Birds and … now Fairway Solitaire HD.  The app is free and comes with several courses/levels… unless you want to unlock the full version (To unlock the full version, it’s $0.99 on iphone and $2.99 on ipad.)

AND it’s fun for the entire family! It’s called Fairway Solitaire, it combines solitaire with golf to create a solitaire experience unlike any other. Like solitaire, you play sequential cards to create long runs. Long runs make long drives. Like golf, long drives help make better scores! Then you add in the meddling gopher named McDivot… It’s a fun, challenging and addicting game that appeals to all ages. I will say, even if you don’t like golf it’s still really fun and cute!

First I took a tutorial called “The Gold Academy” and it showed me the game rules. You play just like solitaire. If you can’t tap on anymore cards, you’ll flip one over from the deck at the bottom of the screen. Because there’s a golf theme, you’re also making shots by playing well. Create one of those long chains and you’ll earn money that can be used to purchase new clubs. And if you see the pesky gopher pop up while playing solitaire, tap him for a bonus.

I’m warning you, it’s a hard app to put down!

My Little Guy

Now that my son is turning 8 I have a lot of people asking me when he can sit in the front seat and I also have him telling me that he is allowed to sit up front because he won’t be using his booster anymore. I find that many of us think we know the guidelines but aren’t really sure so here are the guidelines and recommendations.

American Academy of Pediatrics:

Infants and Toddlers: All infants and toddlers should ride in a Rear-Facing Car Seat until they are 2 years of age or until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car safety seat’s manufacturer.

-Children less than 4 years old or less than 40 pounds must be in an appropriate child safety seat.

-Children ages 4 through 7 who weigh at least 40 pounds must be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they are 80 pounds or 4’9″ tall.

-Children 8 and over or weighing at least 80 pounds or at least 4’9” tall are required to be secured by a safety belt or buckled into an appropriate booster seat.

The American Academy of Pediatrics also recommends that all children younger than 13 years should be seat belt restrained in the rear seats of vehicles for optimal protection.
