As many of you know a devastating tornado hit Joplin Missouri Sunday which has destroyed the city and the death toll is currently at 116.
I have thought all day about what I can do – and what we can do to help.
Here are quite a few ideas as well as information regarding what is needed right now:
-You can send items to the Red Cross in Joplin:
Red Cross – Joplin Disaster
% MSSU
Legget & Platt Athletic Center
3950 Newman Road
Joplin, MO. 64801
Items needed:
Water, Baby Formula, Diapers, Wipes, Toothbrushes, Underwear, Tshirts, Bulk food, Paper Goods, Plastic Wear.
-There are reports on the Joplin Missouri Recovery Facebook page that cash is needed. To make a donation visit RedCross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS; people can also text the word “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to local American Red Cross chapters or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.
-*Heart of Missouri United Way has established the Joplin Tornado Relief Fund. All donations are tax deductible and go to Joplin relief. To donate: Call (573) 443-4523, text “Joplin” to 864833 or visit the Heart of Missouri United Way’s website.
-They are also in need of blood donations – visit RedCross.com or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733 2767) to find out where you can make a donation.
-Emergency officials are asking sightseers to stay away from the area while the damage is assessed. To volunteer, call 1-800-427-4626
-For nurses or doctors looking to help, call (417) 832-9500 for the Greater Ozarks chapter of the Red Cross.
-The Missouri State Highway Patrol is asking all first responders to go to Joplin to a command post at 34th & Main.
-Missourians who need disaster information, shelter information or referrals are urged to call 211.
-If you are looking for someone or if you know someone is safe in the area you can look them up or register them on the Red Cross Safe & Well page.
You can also visit the Joplin Missouris Lost and Found Pets Facebook Page.
The Joplin MO Tornado Recovery Facebook page has a lot of information and from what I have read the thing they need most right now is money.
*If you know of drop off locations – please add them in the comments.
I am donating $5 – up to $500 for every person who leaves a comment on this post stating that they have shared this information with others or that they are making a donation. Please share this information with your friends and family via e-mail or through social media. The Recovery Facebook page is a huge eye opener to how precious our time and lives are and how things can change in an instant.

I am posting on my wall to share. I am also trying to help in gathering donations.

I shared, and Thank You!!!……all the St.Louis CBL malls are collecting new and gently used items …especially for the children: coloring books, crayons, games, clothes, diapers…..etc. The malls are very close to just about everyone! The people of Joplin need our prayers and our help!
Thanks for your page. It helped a lot. Our church group is going over to Joplin today to help clean debris. I shared your page on my fb page
I would love to see someone in my community set up a similar page with coupon deals and specials!!!
Thanks for taking the time to gather this info and letting us know how we can continue to help. People's lives, which have been shattered by disaters such as this, tend to be forgotten about once the media is on to something else. The needs in Joplin will be on going. Shared.
