My back-to-school savings tips are to: 1) know what your child needs from clothing to supplies and don't be tempted to overdo, 2) dedicate an area in your home just for school supplies and check it first for stuff that was left from last year before you go out, 3) watch sales at all stores close to your home (don't waste gas going far out of your way), 4) take advantage of the tax-free weekend, 5) pool with friends – if you find a great sale on crayons – pick up the max. Have them do the same on things they find and then get together and fill up those backpacks, 6) donate leftovers to the needy (many churches collect for this) or to your school.

Stock up when there are sales and then whenever you need something it's conveniently at hand rather than having to head to the store.
